Our dynamic programs build foundational knowledge, skills, and confidence across the pre-trades industry, social services, health, education, administration, and in-house systems. Alongside industry-focused training, we also provide Driver Licensing Support, helping tauira gain or progress their Learner, Restricted, and Full Licences to increase access to employment, training, and future opportunities.
This hands-on journey combines five weeks of theory with a five-week placement alongside our Eastern Bay of Plenty Iwi Alliance Providers and external networking partners. Designed for work-ready individuals, the programme supports those committed to part-time or full-time employment, tertiary study, and making a positive difference within our communities.

Supports tauira to build essential skills for entry-level roles in health, education, and social services. It combines learning with hands-on experience to prepare tauira for meaningful futures

Program Structure
Phase 1: Theory Learning (6 Weeks)
Tauira gain foundational knowledge in:
- Health and Safety
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Te Pou Mataaho (model of care) Framework
- Digital Literacy and Employability Skills
- Privacy Act, Code of Ethics, and Health & Disability Code of Rights
- Goal Setting, Professionalism, and Social Awareness
- Conflict Resolution, Personal Safety, and Courageous Conversations
- Case Noting, Documentation, and Assessment Tools
- In-house Hauora System Knowledge
Phase 2: Work Placement (4 Weeks)
Tauira complete placements with Eastern Bay of Plenty Iwi Alliance providers or external partners.
Key Outcomes
By the end of the program, tauira will:
- Understand key frameworks and values within hauora and social services
- Strengthen digital and soft skills for workplace readiness
- Be prepared for entry-level roles supporting whānau and communities
- Earn a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Accreditted by Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi )
Pre-Trades Program
Supports tauira with the practical skills, certifications, and real-world experience needed to enter the construction and civil works industries. This hands-on training supports work readiness and future study pathways, while building confidence and capability

Phase 2: Work Placement (4 weeks)
Tauira complete a practical placement with industry partners, including the papakāinga projects and other Eastern Bay of Plenty Iwi Alliance providers. This phase offers real-world experience in construction-building and civil works environments.
Key Outcomes
By the end of the program, tauira will:
- Gain hands-on experience in construction and civil works
- Strengthen digital, communication, and workplace skills
- Be ready for part-time or full-time employment or tertiary study
- Build confidence and clarity in career direction
- Develop a strong foundation for future training or apprenticeships

At Rukuhia Te Mahi, we walk alongside our whānau throughout their entire driver licensing journey, helping build confidence, skills, and self-belief every step of the way. From obtaining their first Learner Licence through to achieving their Restricted and Full Licence, we provide practical support to help remove barriers and create opportunities for success.
